Sydney Modern, Art Gallery of NSW
Client: AGNSW [SANAA + Architectus]
Scale / Style: 1:500 Full colour timber model
Materials: CNC milled timbers; plywood; acrylics; cast metal figures; watercolour paints
Kinkfab was commissioned by AGNSW to produce a physical model for the new Sydney Modern Project at the Art Gallery of NSW. Kinkfab worked extensively with SANAA and Architectus Architects to ensure that all the details of the project were accurately conveyed. The model was used for presentations to the public and benefactors as well as being used for the State Significant Development Application submission.
The brief was to create a conceptual timber model that also accurately represented all aspects of the development and harbourside location. This was achieved through the use of watercolour paints throughout the model which subtly stained the timber and also through the accurate modelling of all the surrounding fig trees in the adjoining Botanical Gardens.
These images are of the first scheme of the project. The model was subsequently updated a further three times by Kinkfab in order to reflect the latest designs.
